Old Ed Boon Tweets May Reveal More Mortal Kombat 1 Characters

Old Ed Boon tweets could very well reveal some of the other characters that will be joining the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. There are only nine characters confirmed for the Mortal Kombat 1 roster at the time of this writing, but the final product will likely have many more characters to choose from.

The Mortal Kombat 1 reveal trailer confirmed eight of the characters that will be making up the game’s launch roster, while the official FAQ confirmed Johnny Cage as the ninth playable character. Fans can expect to get a much clearer picture of the rest of the Mortal Kombat 1 roster in the months leading up to the game’s September release, but in the meantime, some of the reveals may have already been teased by Ed Boon.

Reddit user Youngstown_Mafia compiled screenshots of old Ed Boon tweets from last year that may hint at some of the characters that will appear in Mortal Kombat 1. The images show Boon responding to fan questions on Twitter about whether certain characters will return. Now, Ed Boon is notorious for trolling Mortal Kombat fans on Twitter, so it’s best to take this all with a grain of salt. It should also be stressed that some of Boon’s answers could be for a hypothetical future Mortal Kombat game beyond Mortal Kombat 1, so fans should keep that in mind as well.

Boon’s tweets hint at the inclusion of characters like Rain, Chameleon, Tremor, Quan Chi, and more. What’s interesting is that some of these characters have since been leaked for Mortal Kombat 1 thanks to Amazon listing. According to that listing, Tremor and Chameleon/Khameleon will be in Mortal Kombat 1 as Kameo fighters, while Quan Chi will be added as DLC.

Kameo Fighters in Mortal Kombat 1 are basically assist fighters, based on what’s been explained about the new feature so far, though it has yet to be shown in action. Some Mortal Kombat fans may be sad to see certain characters relegated to Kameo status, but others will be happy that some characters are making a return to the fighting game franchise at all.

The Mortal Kombat 1 DLC leaks have also revealed the game’s plans for Kombat Pack 1. According to the leaks, Mortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack 1 will feature six playable characters, consisting of three Mortal Kombat characters and three guest characters. The Mortal Kombat representatives are Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda, while the guest characters are Homelander, Omni Man, and Peacemaker. Even though the leaks came from a reliable source, Mortal Kombat fans should keep their expectations in check until the official announcement happens.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches September 19 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X.
