Hank Green Has Cancer
YouTube pioneer and author Hank Green recently released a video revealing his recent Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosis. Green is an innovator for educational content on the video streaming platform.
Hank Green is a figure that many have been watching since YouTube was still an early concept. The vlogbrothers channel he began with his brother, fellow YouTuber and author of The Fault In Our Stars John Green, was possibly the first highly successful educational channel on the platform. It’s safe to say that both of the Green brothers are YouTube legends, and that’s just part of what makes Hank’s recent reveal of his cancer diagnosis a major shock to the internet.
The announcement came via a recent upload to the vlogbrothers channel bluntly titled “So, I’ve got cancer.” Thankfully, Hank reassures his viewers in the video that his particular type of cancer, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, is currently one of the most treatable cancers to have. Hank in general seems optimistic and in high spirits throughout the video. While tension still pokes through, that is completely expected given this type of news. Pokemon English voice actor James Carter Cathcart recently retired from voice acting after a cancer diagnosis. Thankfully, Hank doesn’t seem to have any plans for retirement, but nonetheless, his announcement is scary and has resulted in an outpouring of support from the YouTuber community.
Hank Green’s tweet about the cancer announcement video has supportive responses from fellow content creators like Philip DeFranco of The Philip DeFranco Show and Anthony Fantano of TheNeedleDrop. It’s clear that the entire community is reeling from this announcement, and everyone will be waiting on Hank’s recovery. Hank’s brother, John Green, has yet to put out any official comment or statement about the situation, but he did recently retweet the reveal video.
On top of vlogbrothers, Hank has multiple other successful channels on YouTube like SciShow and Crash Course. Both channels are hubs for educational content, with Crash Course even having a recent academic collaboration with Arizona State University. All together, Hank’s channels have a combined total of more than 25 million subscribers. Hank is also an author who has published two novels titled An Absolutely Remarkable Thing and A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor. An Absolutely Remarkable Thing debuted at #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
